Direct marketing, is as it sounds, directly communicating a marketing message to a consumer. This way of marketing is often more personal and maybe tailor to the individual that is receiving it, for example, it may have their name on or show them products that work with previous items they have purchased. This can be a great way to increase conversion rates as a consumer is more likely to take an interest in your communication if it is specific and relevant to them.
Having staff at an event (e.g. a stand at an exhibition) that talk directly to visitors is a proven effective form of direct marketing as this allows you to face the consumers face to face. Other forms of direct marketing include sending an SMS marketing message to a contact who has opted in to receive them, sending targeted emails to a group or individuals and telephone marketing – making contact over the phone with existing or potential customers to discuss products or services you have to offer.
There are also forms of marketing which as indirect such as putting up a billboard with a marketing message on it and putting posts on social media that are not specific to any one person.
