Colourways in design

When it comes to design, colours are vitally important. Regardless of whether you are designing logos, leaflets, websites or a banner, colours can promote a message before the text or images are studied.

Certain colours such as greens, creams and browns give the idea of a natural product or service, so many companies that want to promote this as part of their ethos will uses these types of colours.

If you wanted to be a bit more quirky and give the impression of a new, innovative product or service then you may chose more vibrant colours that stand out and are brighter.

Most designers will be able to advise you of colours that not only work well with your business ethos but also that work well together. Often you will need your logo to be designed in two colourways i.e. black on white and white on black to allow it to be used in a number of different places where the background colour varies. If you are using vibrant colours be sure to check that your design is still readable and not too bright that it will put people off.
