With more and more emphasis being put on digital marketing, many graphic designers are losing touch with print design. Unlike digital marketing, print work needs to be correct first time as once it has been printed it is very hard to make changes without printing the whole document again. Many designers are confident in using design applications but not so confident when it comes to colour choices and bleed lines on print work.
If you are considering having print work done, it is vital that you use someone who understands the importance of getting every aspect of the design and layout correct. Never send any work to print that has not been proofed and ideally get a few people to look over it in case an error is missed.
Any work that is sent to a printer should ideally be sent as a PDF so that it cannot be changed. If work is sent as an editable document then mistakes can occur when the document is reopened as it may slightly move something that kicks the whole design out of whack.
Some printers will do one or two copies of a document for you to have a look at first before they print a huge batch. Batch printing often works out a lot cheaper than repeat prints at different times but be sure that the information you are printing will still be relevant when you are using the print work.
