Print design – Colour choices

When designing logos or print design for any form of marketing a key thing to consider is the overall image the design gives and something that greatly contributes to this is the colours that you choose to use.

Obviously if you already have an established logo you’re going to incorporate those colours into any marketing designs however if you can start afresh consider the following physiological meanings behind these colours:-

Red – this colour symbolises passion, energy, action and determination however it can also symbolise anger so it’s not usually a first choice for many logos.

Orange – this can symbolise optimism and social communication so can be great for advertising purposes. However it can be portrayed as superficial so could give the wrong impression for a seriously toned advert.

Blue – this is a very positive colour and usually represents calmness, integrity and trust.

Black – this is said to symbolise being secretive and a feeling of unknowing so is best avoided in forms of promotion or brand awareness exercises.
